Prior to December 2005, I had never heard of image consulting or a wardrobe capsule for that matter. It was then that I met an image consultant while we were both vacationing in Kingston, Jamaica, our birth place. Although our meeting was purely “by chance”, I truly believe that in life there are no coincidences and that the meeting was destiny fulfilled. I had only just recently chosen to end a career in management as Regional Director for several historic properties and was undecided about my next move. With an extensive background in marketing, promotion and customer service, combined with a passion for fashion, born to shop genes and style intuition, I immediately felt a connection to the image field. Telling myself “I can do this” I immediately began to create a bold, new vision for my future, and to dream big dreams.
After researching the image field, and having several conversations with Lynne Marks, President of London Image Institute, and other practicing consultants, I headed off to Great Britain for two weeks to take the London Image Institute UK Foundation and Executive courses. What happened next was nothing short of life altering. The training with Lynne Marks showed me that I had found my true calling and that there would be no turning back. Along with other prospective Image Consultants from around the world, I embarked on a journey of self-rediscovery and realization. This was so vitally important, before you can begin to help others to realize meaningful change and transformation, you must realize it in yourself first. The training exceeded my expectations and was packed with valuable information from start to finish. I knew it would be a strong foundation for this new and important phase in my life.
I took full advantage of the free coaching offered to LII graduates, soaking up Lynne’s thoughtful and instructive responses to my never ending questions, thoughts and ideas. Following her guidelines for a successful business start up, I created all my marketing materials and launched KYMS Image International, LLC in June, 2006 with a grand opening. My career began almost immediately with an invitation to do a luncheon presentation to a small group of professionals. A year later, I have presented Image and Personal Branding workshops to many women’s organizations. I was recently an invited guest presenter at an international wellness conference sponsored by Ocean Spray in Kingston, Jamaica.
In the fall of 2006, I created and launched a personal development program for youth girls called Every Girl Can™ which teaches image, etiquette, civility, self esteem and empowerment to 11 to 14 year olds. The program is offered through schools and community-based organizations in Maryland and will expand to the Caribbean in the summer of 2008. My business focus is primarily on helping women and youth to realize their fullest potential and to worth through a positive expression of their self image. My core services are personal and professional development, personal branding, etiquette and civility.
