Since graduating from London Image Institute in 2006 I have been very busy. The course was a catalyst for me to broaden my experience so that I would be ready to start my business with a variety of services.
I went to New York for some fashion styling and runway production courses in the Fashion Institute of Technology. Later, I went back to assist my professors in various projects for the New York Fashion Week. It was such an eye-opening experience!
While In New York, I also got my make up
artistry certification from Make-Up Designory (MUD) which teaches artists to work with Hollywood stars! Upon returning, I practiced my make-up artistryskills on my sister who is a jazz musician. She performed in Carnegie Hall, New York and also in the Java Jazz Festival which is a huge event in Jakarta attracting artists from all over the world including: Dianne Schuur, Jamie Cullum, Chaka Khan, and many others!
On the strength of that we got hired to produce a musical for
charity. My sister was the music director,and I was the production designer and in charge of the wardrobe and make-up! The productionwas in June, and we were both relieved that it was a huge success. There was also a vast array of media
coverage, so it was very well worth it!
My MBA final grade came out, and I graduated with a Distinction! I was offered a post to teach finance but instead I started teaching in the largest university in Indonesia, Surabaya. I teach Business Communication, Public Relations, Etiquette & Personality.
As my sister is a music teacher -some of her students being Indonesian famous popartists, we decided to merge our businesses and have been hunting the ideal place to set up our business. It has been a real learning curve. I had to drive around in Jakarta's dreadful traffic and terrible Indonesian heat visiting so many places and phoning so many agents and owners that I was ecstatic when we finally secured a wonderful property and some extra land.
The school we're building will have the tagline: "The New School For Music and Image". Behind the existing building we're also building a small concert hall. We plan to make more musical productions with my sister's vocal and music students, combined with my students in the make-up team. On a daily basis, the
concert hall will be utilized for dance classes. I will be working with my personal image clients and teaching make-up and dining etiquette classes.
So right now, we're doing major renovations. The school will be up and running by March 2008, while the concert hall will be ready for performances by July or August. If you are ever in Jakarta please come and visit. We would love to see you!
